JUNE VIP 2024

FOUNDATION

Ethan Braunstein MD, Board Chair, Forest Highlands Foundation

The Foundation welcomes you to another great season at Forest Highlands. During the off season several important things happened. When the final numbers came in, the Arizona Community Foundation had donated 1.3 million dollars to local nonprofits. Of that, your Foundation contributed $280,000, or about 20 % of the total. This represents more than any other local foundation with the exception of the Arizona Community Foundation itself. Our overall reputation in Flagstaff has been greatly improved by your contributions to local welfare.

Indicative of this is the awarding of the Spirit of Philanthropy Award of the Association of Fundraising Professionals to the Forest Highlands Foundation. The award signifies contributions of time, talent of the board members, and, of course, financial contributions in diverse settings such as Flagstaff in an effort to improve the lives of the citizens of the community. Our board chair, Marcus Sipolt, and his wife Darla were also honored with individual Spirit of Philanthropy Awards. Congratulations, Marcus and Darla. The next time you are in the lower level of the Canyon Clubhouse take a look at the award, along with the other awards and thank you letters from local organizations. Our commitment to Flagstaff our the past 25 years has been greatly appreciated.

We were nominated for this award by Catholic Charities of Northern Arizona (CCNA). This is especially fitting, as CCNA not only provides outreach for stable housing, food and hygiene kits for the unsheltered here in Flagstaff, but it also acts as a clearing house and coordinator for efforts by the other local human services nonprofits. CCNA thus is in a position to know bow integral we are to the important work of all the community based nonprofits and other funding foundation and agencies in Northern Arizona. There are many things to look forward to this season. Plans are well underway under the leadership of Vickie Selzer for the Denise Martinez Memorial Tournament. Sponsorships are going quickly and several fivesomes have already signed up at a pace greater than last year. We again will have a Rock ‘n’ Roll theme for the tournament. Start thinking about signing up if you’re planning to play. If you would like to know more about Denise, please read the article about her in the April VIP, written by Will Godfrey. Also, as you know, we are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Foundation this summer with a Gala on July 13. Thanks to Phyllis Banucci and Michelle Arena for spearheading this effort. They’ve recruited many capable volunteers, and the event should be a great success. We’ll have more information as the date draws closer. As always, if you would like more information about the Foundation you can contact me beigestein@gmail.com or any of the board members. If you would like to volunteer at any of the worthy nonprofits that we support, either take a look at our page on the FH website or get in touch with me. Thanks again for your interest in the Foundation and welcome back.
