LEADERSHIP
Patty Ashbrook, General Manager / COO Mike Cahill, Board President Hello everyone;
At this time I’m proud to announce that our four candidates for the four open Board of Director seats are:
The big Labor Day weekend with all of its festivities is rapidly approaching…and I guess by the time you read this it will actually be here! As is typical every year it seems the season just speeds by and we wonder where the months have gone. Thankfully we have had a more normal experience this year with COVID becoming less of a life altering factor. Easier tee times, no masks..Yea! Speaking of speeding, I’m happy to report that our new speed enforcement policy is resulting in dramatically fewer violations as time goes by. Don’t forget that control of speeding was the number ONE request by members in last years member survey. And to reiterate, this policy is completely safety related. The Board and Leadership team would prefer to have zero revenue from this activity. Thanks to everyone for watching your speed! After all, and to the astonishment of some members, these speed limits have been in existence for 35 years! One of the events that takes place over Labor Day weekend is the annual Town Hall meeting, which this year takes place on Saturday, September 3rd at 3PM in the Canyon clubroom. This is the opportunity for the membership to meet the candidates for the open seats on the Board of Directors, see a review of the financial position of the Club (we’re in good shape!), chat about the status of projects planned or underway around the Club, and ask questions about pretty much anything. We would certainly like to see a big turnout live at the Canyon, however this meeting will also be live streamed if you’re hanging out on the deck and would prefer to be outside. One way or the other, please take this opportunity to learn about how the Club is functioning, and who will be on the Board making decisions into the future.

While more details will be available at the Town Hall meeting, I’d like to remind everyone that the following projects are still on track for building permit and initiation of construction this fall: • Pickleball Courts and Facility remodel • Tennis Pro Shop expansion • Canyon Covered Bridge Restroom and Pavilion enhancements • Meadow Patio expansion • Utility and Common area shop and office • 500,000 gallon fresh water tank • Effluent Storage increase
Projects under consideration or planned for 2023 are:
• Meadow Range enhancements and Experience Center • Additional Community Restroom renovations (6) • Canyon Clubhouse needs assessment Finally, I’d like to encourage everyone to attend the Labor Day BBQ this coming Sunday, and to enjoy our end of season major events: The Highlander, Ponderosa and Member Guest Tennis Team event. Also, dining hours adjust for September and October. Be aware! Let’s enjoy the beautiful fall weather, and be nice to each other and the staff!

Things to look for when you see an increase in your water bill…
HIGH WATER BILL?
Leaks in your irrigation system (especially automatic ones) are typically the first culprit to look for when usage seems higher than usual. If a landscaping company does work to your landscaping 1. Ensure you have approval through the Design Review Committee before any plantings or earth moving. 2. Ensure that the company checks the irrigation system is operational before use. The Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) is the regulatory authority with jurisdiction over private water and wastewater companies including Forest Highlands. The ACC dictates that service may be refused because of outstanding water usage charges. CLICK HERE FOR PROPERTY WIDE TRASH LOCATIONS

The Denise Martinez Memorial Golf Tournament was recently concluded. At first the weather didn’t cooperate, but then it did and the event concluded on a beautiful August late afternoon. Thanks to our Tournament chair, Vickie Selzer, it netted about $60000 and smashed the previous fund raising record set last year by, not coincidentally, Vickie Selzer. We’ll have the final numbers in our annual report. Congratulations to Vickie on a job well done. As always, the tournament was capably managed by Matt, Steve, Meghan and the golf staff, and we thank them also. Finally, thanks to our sponsors, volunteers, golf pros who came from all over the area, and to our members and guests who made the day such a success.
Lowell visit, we endured a teeth rattling, suspension challenging drive over a rocky, unpaved Forest Service “road” to get there. We were rewarded by spectacular scenery and wildlife near the camp. I’ve mentioned Camp Colton to you before, but this latest visit was to get
a look at their facilities that will be upgraded or replaced as part of a master plan for capital improvement. Half of the funding will be on a Flagstaff school bond issue in the November election, and the other half will be by private donation. Our annual “horse trading” even with The Arizona Community Foundation also recently took place. In this unique combination of what looks like playing poker and collaborating with ACF and other local charitable foundations at the same time, we managed to donate $281000 to 31 local human services nonprofits. This set a new record for the Forest Highlands Foundation, and coupled with anticipated grants extramural to the ACF grant cycle we will be well placed for meaningful changes in the lives of many underserved Flagstaff residents.

While raising money on the one hand, we were looking for ways to spend it on the other. We paid a recent site visit to the Lowell Observatory, where a few of us donned hard hats and viewed the massive construction project tithe will replace the education center with state of the art audiovisual equipment and a planetarium with a glass roof so that images can be projected while actually viewing the night sky. The Lowell also has a project in collaboration with the Flagstaff Family Food Center in which children at the center will have an after school program in astronomy staffed by the Lowell. As this is the target audience in the population we serve, our grant committee will soon be recommending to our board approval to fund this project.
We’ll have more for you next month. Thanks for all you do for the Foundation and for Flagstaff.

Brief Cap Patrol Member Introduction Video (4 minutes)
CAP PATROL
CAP PATROL
Dear Forest Highlands’ Member,
APP BENEFITS
The primary duty of the Handicap Committee is to "enhance the enjoyment of the game of golf and to give as many players as possible the opportunity to… compete, or play a casual round, with anyone else on a fair and equal basis."Toward that end we have partnered with Cap Patrol to perform peer review of all of our members. Cap Patrol has become a tool used across the industry to aid Handicap Committees in managing this often-challenging responsibility. The Cap Patrol system uses a proprietary algorithm that takes into consideration many factors including: • A players’ potential or ability in recent play and tournament rounds • Variance in home vs. away performance
Cap Patrol is free. You’ll only need to download the app and have your GHIN number to get started.
Benefits to members: • An easier way to keep track of your current play and how you have played in the past. • Built in games for you and fellow members. See how others have been playing recently and set up the most competitive teams, odds and more. • Track and compare your play at home, away, in tournaments and more. • With features like ‘Hot Index’, ‘Last 3’ and ‘Clutch %’, it adds a fun, social component to your golfing.
• Disparity in casual vs. competitive scores reported • Placement in club sponsored tournaments/events
Cap Patrol works with hundreds of clubs, monitoring hundreds of thousands of golfers spanning millions of rounds and utilizes this intelligence to promote integrity in the game of golf. Cap Patrol provides our staff and Handicap Committee with objective data to manage an issue that can affect the culture of a club if unaddressed. Cap Patrol also has been able to harness all the data to create a fun and interesting FREE APP for all members. The app is customized for Forest Highlands Golf Club. You can download the Cap Patrol App by searching for “Cap Patrol” at the App store on your device. You will need your GHIN number and a valid email address to log in. I would encourage you to download the app, as many members have commented on the value they have experienced with the features and benefits contained in the app. As a valued member we are constantly looking to ways to enrich your experience with Forest Highlands Golf Club and our partnership with Cap Patrol is very helpful toward that end.
GET IT ON
Should you have any questions or comments regarding Cap Patrol please direct them to our Handicap Committee handicap@fhgc.com.
Thank you for your understanding and consideration of this matter.
Best Regards, Handicap Committee

Tin Cup Tournament
This year’s Tin Cup Tournament, where members play with the Professional staff in a Pro-Am format, was conducted Monday, August 1 at the Meadow. There were 17 teams, 68 members who participated in the two net best ball competition. Sunday night kicked off the event with a pairings party hosted at Denise Overhardt and John Nicholson’s house. During the party, there was an opportunity to mingle and get to know the Professional staff, have dinner, participate in the live auction and watch the closest to the hole contest won by Steven Mauser. It was a great way to get the tournament started. Monday morning you could feel the excitement in the air as players prepared for the big round and bragging rights for a year. Players talking smack about how they are going to take down their competition and hold the Tin Cup trophy high in the air at the end of the day. No one was safe from the sharp tongue of a couple members. Little did they know, Travis Lamb was going to lead his team with a 69 and 3 stroke victory (122, 22 under par) with playing partners Tom Bodensteiner, Murray Roberts, Mike Bianchi and Professional, James Bickle. It was a battle for second place at 19 under (125) with the tie going to Jeff Bloom, Dana Bloom, Jan Hair, Alton Jones and Professional Paul Misko. Third place also at 19 under (125) was Bob Steger, Todd Weber, Bob Scott, Jeff Schrock and Celebrity Clint Morgan. The competition for the top Professional and bragging rights as the best on the staff was fierce. As we watched the results on Golf Genius, the lead switched hands throughout the round until Champion, Nick Mekus (69) made a second eagle (#3 & #14) to take control over Paul Misko (71), who made 5 birdies in his round. Chris Ohm (72) played very steady with 2 birdies and 2 bogies for the day, Steven Mauser (75) had double bogey that slowed his 3 birdie pace for the top spot and rounding out the top 5, Stephan Moffatt (77) who also made an eagle (#3). It was a perfect day for golf with wonderful members and outstanding Professional staff enjoying each other’s company on a spectacular course. Thank you to all who help made this event possible, Bobby Hubbard, Judge Tim Thomas, Ranie Cahill, John Flanagan, Denise Overhardt, John Nicholson and all the members who played! We look forward to competing for the Tin Cup again in 2023!
Paul Misko, Nick Mekus & Chris Ohm

SEPTEMBER 25 Red Mountain with Molly. An easy but beautiful trail near Parks, AZ.
Aspen Corner is on the Arizona Snow Bowl Rd. approx 1 miles South of the ski area. We will have stationed a vehicle at the terminus of the hike earlier that day, for the return shuttle back to Aspen Corner. This hike is 7.2 miles on what is undoubtedly the prettiest section of the entire AZ Trail! Gently rolling terrain across the Western flank of the San Francisco Peaks. Spectacular views throughout!! Meet in front of the Family Recreation Center at 8:30 A.M. This hike is led by a Forest Highlands member, so there is no FH shuttle available but carpooling is an option. Bring at least 2 liters of water, snacks, (and rain-gear if the monsoons are still around).
