It has been my honor to serve as Chairman of the Forest Highlands Foundation (FHF) for the last several years. As my term comes to an end, I take great pride in how we have helped vulnerable neighbors meet their basic needs, provided educational opportunities and experiences to underprivileged children, and empowered families to build more productive futures. None of this would have been possible without the hard work of our devoted Board of Directors and the incredible generosity of the Forest Highlands community. THANK YOU ! As the Foundation prepares to celebrate our 20th anniversary next year and as we approach the $5 million milestone in community contributions, it is my pleasure to announce the new FHF Officers for 2019. At our final regular meeting of the year, we elected John Rivers, Chairman; Ethan Braunstein, Vice Chair; Lynn Garod, Secretary; and Marcus Sipolt, Treasurer. The experience and dedication of our new leadership teamwill ensure a productive and successful future for the Foundation, In addition, I am excited to announce the election of Vicki Svoboda, Marilyn Seymann, Edward Lesser, and Renee Haas to our Board of Directors. The lifeblood of our all-volunteer organization is the service of FH members who take a turn providing the leadership that will help us fulfill our Mission. With the addition of these outstanding candidates and their invaluable experience in non-profit governance, finance, and development, the Forest Highlands Foundation will be in strong hands.
In 2015, The Foundation awarded a special grant to the Flagstaff Family Food Center (FFFC) in the amount of $10,000 which was restricted to obtaining protein food items for use in FFFC’s programs. The grant was issued in response to a critical lack in the availability of protein from FFFC’s food sources. After exploring all available sources of protein, FHF agreed that the funds would be used to process wild game received from AZ Fish and Game. Since the inception of this grant, 13,343 pounds of wild game have been processed for use in the FFFC daily, hot meal program. To date, this grant has provided protein for over 25,000 hot meals served to hungry men, women, and children in our community. With funds in this very successful program expected to run out next year, FHF agreed in September to extend the grant for another year. In October, Ethan Braunstein, FHF Grants Committee Chair, presented a check for $3,000 to Monica Foos, FFFC’s Interim Executive Directors.
