beginning their work in the community, and we give them small starter grants. We then review their performance at the next grant cycle to determine if they merit further support. In this way we hope to encourage smaller nonprofit organizations in Flagstaff. As I have mentioned in the past, we are the only private club in Northern Arizona with such a philanthropic profile, a fact frequently noticed and commented on in the local philanthropic community.

we are the only private club in Northern Arizona with such a philanthropic profile...

Amid all this activity, we had time to make a site visit to Jojo’s Place, a project developed by Housing Solutions of Northern Arizona. HSNA parlayed a starter grant of $50,000 from the Forest Highlands Foundation into an additional 8.9 million dollars of government funding to purchase a rundown motel on Route 66 and refurbish it into transitional housing for 44 individuals or families while HSNA attempts to arrange permanent housing for them. Occupants already have begun to move into this facility.

Finally, I regret to report that Len Huck passed away at the age of 101. Len had been Chair of the Forest Highlands Foundation 20 years ago, and perhaps he was more responsible than anyone else for the integration of the Foundation into the already existing philanthropic community of Flagstaff so that all of our efforts could be more efficiently coordinated. Len was a person of great integrity and compassion, and he will be sorely missed. Our deepest sympathy goes out to his family.

As usual, if you have any questions about the Foundation, or if you would like to volunteer for our board or any of our activities, please contact me at beigestein@gmail.com or our Chairman, MarcusSipolt; msipolt@blindsidesbc.com

Thank you. Ethan Braunstein, Past Chair, Forest Highlands Foundation
