SPEED LIMIT ENFORCMENT PLEASE MAINTAIN YOUR VEHICLE SPEED
Many drivers in Forest Highlands comply with posted speed limits. Speed limits within Forest Highlands are consistent with residential speed limit standards. In Forest Highlands the only road with a 35 MPH speed limit is Forest Highlands Drive and spans from the Security Gatehouse to the mailroom. At the mailroom, the speed limit is reduced to 15 MPH because of the congestion and there is a golf cart path crossing. Recently there has been discussion in the community about radar cameras used to enforce speed limits. There has been mixed thoughts of the noted approach, most of the feedback has been positive. Below are statistics pertaining to one month of the radar camera data, June 16 to July 16. In summary, it appears the radar cameras are having a positive impact for community safety. Below are statistics that summarize impact of the cameras and categories of those found to violate speed limits. Within the date range the cameras recorded speed limit violations totaling 4192, all within 25 MPH speed limit zones. The number is then managed by the Security team for purposes of eliminating duplicates (same incident with multiple photos/violations), unreadable license plates (weather or obstructed by a passing vehicle) and license plates not in the system. Additionally, warnings are part of the 4192 and once all the noted is factored, there were 322 actual violations issued for violations 40+ MPH in the 25 MPH speed limit zones. Below are numbers showing the POSITIVE impact of the cameras and are based on violations of 40+ MPH (violations are decreasing). The numbers below are from Griffiths Spring by Canyon Hole No. 17 (Bailey’s Curve) an area where the Membership has voiced concern and radar signs have confirmed there have been numerous violations:
