WHAT OUR MEMBERS ARE SAYING...
Doug Sutter, General Manager/COO Dave Stearns, Board President
Dear Fellow Members,
Fitness Classes and Spa Great team!
Spring is finally here, and what a beautiful time to be in Forest Highlands! In preparation for a busy summer season, our leadership team spent a considerable amount of time reviewing and planning for the year during our Annual Board Retreat on April 26th – 27th. Each department presented their action plan for 2024, and I can confidently say, on behalf of the board, that this will be the best season yet.
Club Excellent experience since 2003. Great people, facilities, and golf Best 36 holes of golf in Arizona. Great family community.
The tour included an overview of the operations and facilities for all of Forest Highlands, including the newly expanded Public Works and the Water & Wastewater facilities, Security, both clubhouses, both maintenance facilities, both pro shops, the fitness center, recreation facilities, and our Administration offices. It is amazing how much work is involved in running
Recreation Great help from Erin and Annie for our winter program. Programs for children are excellent.
Covered Bridge Pavilion
Security The FHGC Security Team are always pleasant and very helpful when we have requests for contractor access, pest control services and thermostat heating settings during the winter months.
our small city and how much energy the people in charge of it have. We are very fortunate to have such a skilled group of people managing our community.
Golf season is almost upon us! We are diligently preparing for the 2024 Golf Course Opening, and we anticipate the Meadow Course opening on May 3rd-5th, Canyon Course on May 10th-12th, and both courses being open for summer on May 15th. The Greens & Golf committee officially shared the new mission statement, aiming to elevate the Canyon Course to Top 100 status by 2027. Strategies discussed included increased attention to detail, hosting golf raters, improving agronomic programs, better supporting golf department staff, involving the department in maintenance, member engagement, and
Reliability, trustworthiness, and ease of use for their services.
Timely service and a follow-up phone call to confirm. Thanks!

implementing USGA recommendations. The Greens Committee will be hosting a BBQ on May 10th, 2024, at the Canyon Course Maintenance Center to appreciate the Agronomy Team and share details on the Top 100 By 2027 Mission. Some of the more specific areas the leaders are finishing up on: Miguel Parra and his team are working on the road repair projects which are scheduled to be done in May. There has been great progress in refurbishing the patio and golf furniture, window cleaning, street sweeping, and trail maintenance has been planned. The Utilities Department is focused on preparing the wastewater treatment plant, the collection system, and water distribution system. There was a slight delay in the 300k gallon influent tank due to the application approval process, but it is not holding up any work with the potable water tank construction. The Meadow Clubhouse/Recreation Center Audio/Visual Project has been successfully completed. Progress on the Tennis Pavilion Project is impressive! We anticipate completion by the end of May, with hopes of opening the court to Members as soon as they are done with the resurfacing. The Restroom Pavilion Project also had some enhancements which we are excited for. Lastly, the WWT Structure Roof Repair Project is nearing completion and is expected to finish within the next few weeks. This will be a busy season, and we will include as many events as possible in the Calendar of Events. However, please be sure to always check the website and the Voice in the Pines for the most updated information.

GOLF COURSE MAINTENANCE UPDATE
To begin, I’d like to explain some of our strategies and goals for this season and update you as to where we currently stand with maintenance and where we are headed for the summer. Our primary goals this year are twofold: We would like to focus our maintenance this season on exemplary attention to detail and a return to sound agronomic principles. Part of what makes these courses exceptional are the little things that are visible in the periphery. Straight posts, trimmed valve boxes and sprinkler heads, edged cart paths, trimmed trees, nice straight mowing lines, weed-free tees, and prompt cleanup of debris and trash. Of course, two other factors that contribute to our courses' greatness are turf conditions and playability. Our overarching goals this year are to have visually beautiful courses, outstanding turf conditions, and nothing to distract your peripheral vision. We don’t want anything out of place. We want your eyes to focus on golf and the beauty of our community. We want you to feel as if this place is one of a kind, which it is! This year, we are also launching a campaign to restore the Canyon Course to Top 100 status by 2027. Additionally, we aim to elevate the Meadow Course to its highest possible ranking, which should be at least within the Top 200 in the U.S. These are ambitious goals, but by renewing our focus on attention to detail and sound agronomic practices, we believe we are heading in the right direction. This season, thanks to some new fertilizer products, our fairways will be even more pristine than in years past. We will prioritize maintaining bunkers to enhance visual appeal while simultaneously improving turf health. We have removed some trees encroaching on teeing areas, which previously posed challenges for shot making. Furthermore, we will enhance walk paths and walk bridges to be more accommodating for push carts.
