LEADERSHIP

Mike Cahill, Board President Patty Ashbrook, General Manager / COO The month of May and the start of the summer season were noticeably quieter than what we have experienced the past couple of years. Early indications would seem that use of the club may be returning to a pre-pandemic pattern, although the winds and cooler weather we experienced in the first half of the month were a very good reason to stay in the Valley! Thankfully the winds have diminished and temperatures are heading toward that perfect summertime range we enjoy here in the high country. The warmer weather along with lots of fertilizer, grass seed, water and diligent encouragement from Bill Abbey and the course maintenance team has helped both courses come a long way in repairing the winter damage. Playing conditions on both courses are now much improved and will be terrific with a couple more weeks of warm weather. We have had a couple of important staff changes over the past month. In late April our CFO Ryan Oldroyd accepted a position as the CFO of Arizona Country Club. In finding his replacement it was very important to us to find a local candidate who was familiar with Flagstaff and had an extensive hospitality and well-rounded accounting background. It is with great pleasure that I introduce our new CFO Kim Rushing. Kim is local to Flagstaff and joins us from Continental Country Club, a non-profit homeowner’s association, where she oversaw 2,400 property owners and the golf course operation. She was previously the Controller for Xanterra Parks and Resorts with oversight of all financial functions for the Grand Canyon Railway & Hotel, the Petrified Forest, and the Grand Canyon South Rim Lodges. Kim has over 20 years of experience in financial accounting, including month-end processing, cash management, account and intercompany reconciliation, processing/overseeing payables and receivables, annual audits, operating and capital budget preparation and supervision of accounting staff. We are fortunate to have her wealth of experience and I know she looks forward to the opportunity to meet all of you! It also my pleasure to announce that this past month Kurt Martin was granted the title of Assistant General Manager. Kurt has been with Forest Highlands for the past 20 years

and was given additional oversight responsibilities in 2019 when his title was expanded to Director of Recreation & Community Services. The current organization chart and hierarchy will not change as he will continue to provide the same oversight role as exists currently for the recreation, fitness/wellness, aquatics, concierge, racquets, common area and facility maintenance, and the utility operations departments. As AGM Kurt will fill the role of acting GM when I may be absent from the Club. He will continue to regularly attend the Recreation & Racquet, Firewise and Master Plan committee meetings as this enables Kurt to have a good understanding of the future needs of the community, and he will become involved in the new Utility Operations committee as well as attending Board and Finance committee meetings. We are very pleased to be able to provide this opportunity for continued professional growth for Kurt and continuity for the community. This past week has been a busy one with the May Board meeting on the 23rd, the first Coffee with the GM on the 26th, the Annual Member Meeting on the 28th and the Memorial Day BBQ on the 29th! As communicated in the Special Meeting Notice email sent May 24, the Board approved ending the CC&R Plat Amendment Vote on Thursday, May 26 at 1PM as we had received more than the 574 affirmative votes needed to pass the plat amendment. The official tally was 615 votes in favor with 83 opposed. A total of 698 votes were cast representing 81% of all eligible members. As the Plat Amendment has been overwhelmingly approved by the membership, the next step is to submit it to Coconino County to process the amended plat. A Coconino County Board of Supervisor’s Hearing will be required with the proposed plat being on the consent agenda. Once approved by the County, the amended final plat will be recorded after it is signed by all the required parties. Simultaneously with the plat submittal to the County, we will begin working with our facility architect, multiple consultants including a sound engineer, traffic safety engineer, and landscape architect, and our contractor to create the conceptual drawings and construction documents for the project. We will continue to keep you updated on this process as we expect it will take the majority of the summer and fall before we will be ready to break ground. continued on next page > > >
