LEADERSHIP
Patty Ashbrook, General Manager / COO Dirck Iacobelli, Board President
Please be sure to note that at the October 31, 2022 meeting (board minutes available on the member website), the board made a decision to postpone construction of the expanded tennis pavilion project until Fall 2023, so the facility would be available for the 2023 summer season. A new architect was hired in mid-2022 and final plans were not complete until early October. This created a delay in obtaining the construction permit and would have delayed the estimated completion date until July 2023. Weather impacts and material procurement issues could have delayed the project even further. We plan to close the tennis facility mid-October 2023 so that demolition can begin with an anticipated completion by Memorial Weekend 2024. The Member Roundtable meeting to discuss brainstorming ideas for the Canyon Clubhouse will be postponed from March 18 to a date later in the summer to allow greater member participation. The Board also approved naming the putting course for Dick Bailey and Mike Kosak as they were both instrumental in the creation of this fabulous community amenity. During discussions concerning better communication the Board recommended • Including Board members in the Coffee with the GM gatherings this summer. • Development of a system to catalog emails to the Board and if appropriate assign responsibility for responding. • Establishing an Ad Hoc Communications Committee. • Posting the approved minutes of HOA Board Meetings and future committee meetings on the member website. • Emailing a Board Brief following each board meeting that summarizes key actions and discussion. Sara Rhodes and Nancy Balm presented a report summarizing the recommendations of the Pickleball Ad Hoc Committee and the Board approved a meeting with the Committee, the builder team, the General Manager and the HOA President to review them.
Dear Fellow Members;
The second meeting of the recently elected 2023 FHGC Board of Directors was held on February 20 at the Ironwood Clubhouse at Anthem Golf and Country Club. All Board members attended in person or by Zoom as did approximately 20 other members. In addition to more common agenda items that are summarized herein, a significant portion of the meeting was devoted to discussion of recent member feedback regarding communication. In this my initial message as your HOA President, I would like to assure you that improved communication and transparency are among the Board’s highest priorities. During the President’s report on timeline and action items it was noted that Bill Aust and Mike Selzer are working with Phil Smith to determine how best to honor Tom Weiskopf’s legacy at Forest Highlands. The annual audit of the prior year (2022) financial statements began in February and is scheduled for completion in March. Committee volunteer forms were distributed by email and online, and the leadership team is finalizing their season and professional development plans. As we look forward to March, the leadership team will begin hiring and preparation for the golf season. The Board is scheduled to approve changes to the Association Rules and ratify committee assignments at the March meeting. The General Manager reported that although weekend dining activity has fluctuated because of heavy snow and cold temperatures, it is very similar to pre-pandemic levels. Capital project updates indicate the pickleball facility is proceeding as weather permits. Courts should be playable by mid-June. Project savings from value engineering to date equal $209K. The Meadow patio extension is moving rapidly with April 9 as the goal for most work to be completed. The Covered Bridge restroom is still waiting for approval from the County. The Utility Operations Building is essentially complete.
