REMINDER Broken backflow preventers (pictured) and water leaks are costly and can be avoided. - Lindsey Church, Utility Operations Director

PREPARING YOUR HOME FOR THE WINTER

Turn water off in your home and drain the pipes. After draining the pipes close the faucets.

Some Members turn water off at the street. While this is preferred by some, locating outside valves during the snow season results in challenges (including jeopardizing safety) for home owners and Forest Highlands employees.

CONSIDERING HOUSE WATCH LEADING INTO THE WINTER MONTHS? If you are considering House Watch, please email Security at security@fhgc.com. Below is a snapshot of the program:

Unplug recirculating pumps

Set thermostats at 55, it is good for appliances and prevents freezing of pipes if water remains in the pipes.

Weekly House Watch visits include:

• Check security of doors, windows, and locks • Check water heater for correct temperature setting • Check on or off status of water • Check house temperature and heat setting • Check for water leaks or storm damage • Check alarm transmission ability • Exterior perimeter check of structure • Perform reasonable special instructions • Notify the homeowner of any discrepancies

Leave sink cabinet doors open.

Turn hot water heaters to vacation or low (keep them lit).

Lock doors and window.
